Portraits and Figurative Paintings
Romy Schneider
Model for the portrait of the German actress Romy Schneider was a title photo of the magazine “Stern” in 1973. Until now, 25 years after her death, she is still famous in the German speaking countries and in France.
After a caroused night during carneval of that year I went to the shop near the University of Würzburg, saw the journal and bought it quite in contrary to my usual habit. The same day I started to paint the portrait.
The work lasted 8 weeks, 6 of the weeks daily and 250 hours in total are not overdone. While this doing the studies had been interrupted that stuck in a dead end. Because of the terpentine my hands reacted allergically by breaking out in a rash. After the painting had been finished the studies also came to a happy end.
Later the first time I dared to sell a painting, this one, without success but I had been asked if I would have more of such paintings.
